Osteopathy at Autumn RETREAT

Osteopathy is a physical therapy founded on the belief that the body has its own self-healing capabilities.  The Osteopath’s role is to facilitate this process. Osteopathy is a gentle, non-invasive manual therapy that is beneficial for the whole family. It was developed in the late 1800’s by an American doctor, Andrew Taylor Still. He found that if the body was free from strain and in proper alignment it would be free from disease and dysfunction. Osteopathy is a unique treatment modality that encompasses the whole body with its specific philosophy and principles.

The philosophy is based on the following:
• The body is a unit.
• Structure & function are reciprocally interrelated.
• The body has self-regulating/self- healing mechanisms.

Disturbance in the structure-function relationship within the body will ultimately result in dysfunction, ill health or disease. Osteopathy is a holistic, drug free therapy that applies a hands-on approach to diagnosis and treatment. It helps to remove the physical stresses and strains, to allow the bodies own self-healing mechanism to strive toward a state of balance and health.

Osteopathy may assist with:
